Is playing video games really that bad for you?

May 6th, 2015

For decades now, video games have been maligned. Some see it as an intellectually lazy activity, and others believe it can lead to social problems like violence. While there may be some truth to such concerns, a new study by the American Psychological Association actually shows that playing video games can have benefits as well. Among them:

  1. Better spacial reasoning
  2. Better social skills
  3. Better reasoning
  4. Better memory and perception

This does not negate serious problems like video game addiction, but it does cast things in a different light. As I’ve long suspected, playing video games is not simply a waste of time; it can actually be good for you in certain ways.

Now that I’ve justified one of my main hobbies, let me talk a bit about how to keep your gaming fresh and interesting by joining a video game rental service such as Gamefly.

There are many people out there who play just a single game. This is often the case with many role playing games or subscription-based MMOs. But there are also gamers out there who love to sample tons of different games throughout the course of the year.

I find myself in the latter category.

And while monthly subscriptions can make a dent in your wallet, it’s really not that bad compared to gamers who are constantly buying new games to keep from getting bored. Unfortunately, this can become rather expensive.

Luckily, I’ve found a better way, and it’s the service I mentioned earlier, called Gamefly. By becoming a member, you can rent unlimited games, and you don’t even have to go somewhere to pick them up, since they will be delivered to you by mail. To learn more about how the service works, read this article on

Now really, how convenient is that, and what more could you ask for?

Given all that it delivers, Gamefly isn’t all that expensive either. In fact, it costs about the same amount as a monthly subscription to a popular MMO like World of Warcraft. For such a modest fee, I’d say you get a lot for your money by joining Gamefly, and recommend it to other games like me who love to try out new games all the time.
